  • Minimum 21 years old (MAS Requirement).
  • A full certificate in GCE A-Level, International Baccalaureate Diploma qualification, diploma awarded by a Polytechnic in Singapore, or any other academic qualification which is equivalent to the above qualifications.
  • No working experience is required.

About the Insurance Industry in Singapore

The Singaporean government regulates all businesses, thus all insurance companies are owned and operated by the government. In Singapore, the majority of the insurance companies are public companies. The public insurance companies are GIC and Temasek Holdings. The top three largest private insurance companies in Singapore are Great Eastern Holdings, NTUC Income, and AXA. There are several insurance companies in Singapore, but the two largest companies are AXA and Great Eastern Holdings.

Difference between an insurance agent vs a financial advisor

These are two different types of financial advisors. Insurance agents work for an insurance company and sell insurance products to clients. Independent financial advisors are self-employed and they get paid by commission. These independent financial advisors don't work for any company, they work directly for the customers to sell them financial products that suit their needs. 

Because insurance agents are employees of insurance companies, they are not able to choose whatever products they want to sell. They are forced to sell only the products approved by the insurance company. They earn their living by selling insurance products. Whereas independent financial advisors are free from any limitations of selling only approved products. They can select their own products and sell them to the clients directly.
